Many families in Delhi want their new home to follow Vastu. The best time to think about it is before the drawings are final, because moving a kitchen or staircase after the structure is built is difficult. Here are some commonly followed guidelines.
Main entrance
East and north-facing entrances are generally considered favourable. On a plot where the road decides the facing, a Vastu consultant can suggest the best position for the main door within that side.
Kitchen
The south-east corner is traditionally preferred for the kitchen, with the cook facing east while cooking. North-west is often treated as an alternative.
Master bedroom
The south-west part of the floor is usually recommended for the master bedroom, as it is associated with stability.
Pooja space
The north-east corner is commonly preferred for a pooja room or prayer space, kept clean and well lit.
Bathrooms and toilets
Many people avoid placing toilets in the north-east. West or north-west positions are commonly suggested.
Staircase and lift
Staircases are often placed in the south or west part of the building. On narrow Delhi plots the position of stairs and lift is also decided by the structure and rules, so it should be planned together with the architect.
Balance Vastu with practical planning
On a real plot, road facing, plot width, light, ventilation and building rules all have to work together with Vastu. The right approach is to bring the Vastu consultant and the architect to the same table early.
